Suzie’s Journey: From Trusting Me to Sitting in the Saddle | Backing a young horse

I am SO excited to finally bring you this video! It’s turned out a bit longer than expected (oops!), so I hope you stick around till the end... where you’ll see whether I sit on Suzie or go splat! 😬

The past few months at Katie’s yard with all her horses have been amazing, but I’ve been itching to share an in-depth look at this special little mare, Suzie – A 6-year-old Cob x. From the start, I’ve been documenting her journey, hoping we’d be a little further along by now, but as horses like to remind us, we’ve got to go at their pace! Especially with a character like Suz!

We began with the basics – getting her comfortable with picking up her feet, which for her was a huge step. And now, I’ve actually managed to sit on her! 🎉 There’s still so much to figure out with this clever, sassy soul, but she’s teaching me so much already. I’m sure once she wraps her head around this whole riding thing, she’ll be flying!

Watching Suzie’s confidence grow has been the most rewarding experience, and I feel so lucky to be a part of her journey. She’s full of surprises, and I can’t wait to see where we go from here!

Side note: We had Suzie attempt her first jump (alone!) last week, but sadly, due to some hard drive issues, that footage was lost. 😭 But don’t worry – I’ve got a new PC now, so no more lost clips going forward. For now, enjoy this “very short” (haha) 50-minute video!
