How to Tie the Victoria Knot

The Victoria knot is to the Four in Hand knot while the Kelvin knot is to the Oriental. Simply put, the Victoria knot is a four in hand looped around once more. This knot is often favorited by rakish men who really want a larger knot. Although similar to the Kelvin, it is still bigger simply because you have half a loop more.

Now, I'm wearing a thick jacquard silk tie by Fort Belvedere which adds to the size of the knot. The more you loop your tie around, the bigger the knot gets, the shorter your tie gets overall. Here is how you tie the Victoria Knot.

1. Begin with the blade side up, seam side down. Slim end should be on your right, wide end on your left. Slim end has to be much shorter, about one and a half hands up from the waistband.
2. Wide end over slim end, pinch and loop around. Once you have it in front, do it once again and loop it around one more time.
3. The wide end goes through the hole then up and pull it tight. Down through the knot. I only pushed it through the top layer of the knot.
4. For a tie dimple, pinch it slightly and pull it through gently.
5. Once satisfied with how it looks, pull it up.
6. Adjust the collar and make sure to remove any wrinkles.

Due to its size, this will not go well with classic collars. For bigger knots, the tie gets automatically shorter so ifor shorter guys, that may be good however if you're taller the tie won't look proportion and will definitely look bad. Get a tie that is longer to accommodate your height. Fort Belvedere offers ties in three lengths, short, regular, and long so every man can wear the knot he likes and get the right length.
