Eshu (Elegua, Esu Elegba) The Trickster Orisha & Guardian Of The Path | Yoruba Mythology Explained

Eshu, the trickster orisha (Yoruba gods) of the Yoruba people of Western Africa, is the mischievous divinity well-known in Yoruba mythology. The god Eshu also goes by several other names, he is also known as Eleggua, Elegua, Exu in the Candomble in Brazil, Eshu is also revered in voodoo as Elegba, where he is often associated with the persona called Papa legba.

In African History and legends, Eshu was the divine part that tests mankind through the daily difficulties of life, but these hardships always significant meaning behind. Eshu also rewards those who prove themselves worthy.
The orisha Eshu is benevolent and malevolent deity, he could be cruel as he could be good. Stories of Eshu relate the orisha of being the messenger of the supreme god, a psychopomp between humanity and the orisha, Eshu serves as a go-between the spiritual
and the physical world. Eshu was the great negotiator between the conflict of the Orishas and the malevolent gods, known as the AJOGUN.
Although being an orisha, Eshu was not associated to worship like other orishas such as Shango, the god of thunder and lightning, Oshun/Osun , Oya, Ogun or Yemoja the river deity. But anyone worshipping an orisha would inevitably go through him to have his blessing, so Eshu or Elegba is the orisha who comes before the other Yoruba gods of the pantheon.
In Yoruba religion, Eshu is the orisha accountable for bringing Ifa Divination to humanity.
