Benjamin Hornigold is not only one of the most important figures from the Golden Age of Piracy, but the history of the Bahamas. In 1714 he established a pirate stronghold on the island of New Providence. The city of Nassau would blossom into an anarchic pirate state, known today as the Pirate Republic. The groundwork established by Hornigold, would then be reintegrated into the British colony, and flourish into the capital of an independent country.
