Did you know that sage is a fantastic ingredient for oral care products? It is antimicrobial, so it kills germs, as well as helps to prevent plaque buildup. And because of these germ-eliminating properties, it’s great at fighting viruses as well. So it’s a great ingredient for a mouthwash but can also be used for gargling - keep both your mouth and your throat healthy! Whether you have a sage plant, buy fresh sage from the market, or have some dried sage on hand, you’ll be able to make this simple mouthwash.

Recipe:
1 cup hot water (do not use boiling water with herbs)
1/2 cup sage (either fresh or dried)
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup hydrogen peroxide (optional for whitening)

If you have a loose leaf tea infuser, place the rough chopped sage into the basket, add the cup of hot water, and steep for 5 minutes. Then in a larger measuring cup or bowl add the salt and hydrogen peroxide, stirring to dissolve the salt. Allow to cool, then place in glass jars for storage. Because of the salt content, you will want to avoid rusting of lids by using either stainless steel or plastic lids. There is no preservative ingredient in this mouthwash, so be sure to use the batch within 2 weeks.
