The Natural History Museum in London is a natural history museum that exhibits a vast range of specimens from various segments of natural history. It is one of three major museums on Exhibition Road in South Kensington, the others being the Science Museum and the Victoria and Albert Museum.

What attracts most attention are the dinosaur exhibits, including robotic life size examples. A full scale exhibit of a whale also leaves a lasting impression. This female Blue Whale skeleton has been named Hope by the museum as a symbol of humanity’s power to shape a sustainable future. It is one of the first species that humans decided to save on a global scale.
Consisting of 221 bones, it is hung in the exact diving lunge feeding position.

Long and slender, the blue whale’s body is various shades of bluish-grey dorsally and somewhat lighter color underneath.

Blue whales were abundant in nearly all the oceans on Earth until the beginning of the twentieth century. For over a century, they were hunted almost to extinction by whalers until protected by the international community in 1966.

Guy the Gorilla (1946-1978), a western lowland gorilla, was one of London Zoo's best loved resident. After his death, he lived on as a display and research specimen at the Natural History Museum.

This sequoia has a long history. The tree was 1,300 years old and 101 metres tall when it was felled in 1891. Tree rings are created under the bark as the organism grows taller and thicker. Experts can tell how old a tree is by its number of growth rings
