The Dolder Grand appears to be a fantasy castle with turrets reaching into the clouds above Lake Zurich. However, it is a 175-room 5-star modern hotel and luxury Spa.

The old building dated from 1899 and was originally a popular retreat and spa facility. However, it was substantially renovated, updating the spa and modernizing the accommodation. Besides, two side wings designed by architect Norman Foster have been added, blending the traditional style with innovative concepts to create a first-class city resort.

Today the Dolder is one of ‘The Leading Hotels of the World. It is also part of an international group representing luxury and iconic hotels and accommodations.

Its location enhances the fairytale quality of the older part of the hotel on Adlisberg Hill. This overlooks the shimmering waters of the Lake. Moreover, the turreted rooftops point to the mountains, and the whole complex sits amid a natural woodland scene.

This dreamy sheltered haven appears to be quite distant from the city of Zurich. However, it is easily and quickly reached by car or the hotel's quaint rack and funicular railway systems. An hourly shuttle is also available for guests free of charge, as is the parking facility for up to 240 cars.

The hotel's approach by car brings guests to the spectacular cream and wine-colored Belle Epoque main building. The romantic style continues inside with elaborate flower arrangements, a marble lobby, columns, grand staircases, and decorative ceilings dripping with sparkling Swarovski crystal chandeliers.

This impression blends into a gallery of original pieces of modern art by such notables as Henry Moore and Salvador Dali. A vast Andy Warhol piece bravely but impressively overlooks the reception area, making a statement about the hotel ‘old meets new’ style.

The Norman Foster Extensions. Spa Wing and Golf Wing
These two huge extensions of stone and triple-glazed tinted glass curve around either side of the main building. Energy-efficient, the wings double the size of the hotel but harmonize with the historic building. It also mirrors the woodland setting in tree-patterned aluminum balustrades.

The décor has splashes of brighter, fresher tones, and bathrooms here are sleek and luxuriant in sand-colored Jura limestone. Floor-to-ceiling windows fill rooms with natural light.
