Street Fighter II: The World Warrior (Arcade) | Ryu vs. Ryu Glitch

Описание к видео Street Fighter II: The World Warrior (Arcade) | Ryu vs. Ryu Glitch

Anyone who's familiar with the arcade version of SFII: The World Warrior will know that selecting the same character was not possible until Champion Edition. But did you know there was a glitch that allowed you to play a mirror match with Ryu? Here's how.

Start a new game as P1 (left side) and select any character besides Ryu. Play until you reach Ryu, and lose (alternatively, you can select Chun-Li or Blanka, whose first opponent is always Ryu). Do not continue as P1 during the continue screen; instead, continue as P2 (right side) and select Ryu. You will now fight as Ryu against a CPU-controlled Ryu.

I first learned about this glitch from a video game magazine back in the early '90s, but with age comes memory loss. I scoured the internet for years, convinced that nobody had documented it. Then one day, in 2010, I stumbled upon an old FAQ from 1992, called 'The definitive arcade video game cheat sheet', which contained the glitch. There's already a few videos on YouTube demonstrating this glitch, but they all pre-date YouTube's 60fps playback, so I figured it wouldn't hurt to make one in 60fps.

There's a similar glitch for the SNES port of SFII that allows two of the same-colored character to fight each other, but I can't remember the specifics and I've had no luck finding it on the internet. This too was featured in an old video game magazine, but damned if I can remember which. If anyone knows what magazine+issue these glitches were printed in (I believe the arcade glitch was in an issue of Video Games & Computer Entertainment) or how to do the SNES glitch, please leave a comment!

UPDATE (9/9/2018): The SNES version of this glitch was printed in the December 1992 issue of Electronic Gaming Monthly. Scan: https://i.imgur.com/sg6ewMx.jpg
