Maruthamalai Murugan Temple History in Tamil
Marudhachalamurthy (Lord Muruga) Temple, Marudamalai is a popular 12th-century hill temple situated in Coimbatore, Tamil nadu, India. Built by Tamil kings during the Sangam Period as indicated in the Purananuru, the temple is dedicated to Lord Murugan and is considered the Seventh House of Lord Murugan.

Like most Murugan temples, the Temple is situated upon a hillock, part of the Western Ghats about 12 to 15 km west from the centre of the city of Coimbatore. Thai poosam and other Murugan festivals are celebrated. On many evenings, the devotees take out a procession of Lord Murugan sitting in a chariot (Rath Yatra) and encircle the temple.
Maruthamalai Pambatti siddhar history.
The history of the temple goes as that Pambatti Siddhar was involved in catching snakes at an early age, breaking down their venom and making medicine for snakebite and hence the people call him as the “Snake Doctor.” Once he came to Marudhamalai in search of a snake breed Naga Rathnam. The sage Sattai Munivar then appeared before him and told him that “The purpose of birth is to find the serpent (Kundalini power) within the body and it is useless to wander in the forest in search of snakes!”. Pambatti Siddhar who heard his word gained wisdom and came to the conclusion that he will never hurt any lives on the Earth. He began worshipping the Lord Murugan in Maruthamalai and engaged in meditation. Being happy upon his penance the Lord Murugan appeared before him with his wives Valli and Deivana and blessed him wisdom. Devotees call him as Maruthamalai Mamani.
மருதமலை முருகன் கோயில் அல்லது மருதாசலமூர்த்தி கோவில், கோயம்புத்தூரில் இருந்து 15 கிமீ தொலைவிலுள்ள மருதமலை மேல் அமைந்துள்ளது. அருணகிரிநாதரால் திருப்புகழில் பாடப்பெற்ற தலமிது. இக்கோவிலின் முதன்மைக் கடவுளான முருகன், இங்கு சுப்பிரமணிய சுவாமி என்றும் தண்டாயுதபாணி என்றும் மருதாசலமூர்த்தி என்றும் அழைக்கப்படுகிறார். மருதமலையின் அடிவாரத்தில் தான்தோன்றி விநாயகர் என்ற ஒரு சிறிய விநாயகர் கோயிலும் உள்ளது.

முருகப்பெருமானின் ஏழாவது படைவீடாகக் கருதப்படும் மருதமலை, முற்காலத்தில் கொங்கு வேட்டுவ மன்னர்களால் பராமரிக்கப்பட்டு வந்தது. மருதமலை முருகன் கோயில் தற்போது தமிழ்நாடு அரசின் இந்து சமய அறநிலையத்துறையின் கட்டுப்பாட்டில் உள்ளது. தேவாரப் பாடல் பெற்ற தலமான திருமுருகன்பூண்டி கோயில் கல்வெட்டுகளில், மருதமலை கோயில் 12 ஆம் நூற்றாண்டைச் சேர்ந்ததாகத் தகவல்கள் உள்ளன.

முருகன் கோயிலுக்கு அருகில் பாம்பாட்டி சித்தரின் குகைக்கோயில் அமைந்துள்ளது. வரலாற்று சிறப்புமிக்க பதினெட்டு சித்தர்களுள் ஒருவரான பாம்பாட்டி சித்தர், இந்த குகையில் சில காலம் வசித்து வந்தார். பல மூலிகைகளின் பயன்கள் மற்றும் மருத்துவ குணங்களைப் பற்றிய அவரது குறிப்புகள் மிகவும் சிறப்பானவையாகக் கருதப்படுகிறது.

இக்கோவிலின் தெற்குமூலையில் பாம்பாட்டி சித்தர் குகைக்கோயிலுக்குச் செல்லும் படிக்கட்டுகள் கீழிறங்குகின்றன. இக்குகைக்கோயில் சிறு குடைவரை அமைப்பில் உள்ளது. உட்புறத்தில் ஒரு பாறை பாம்பு வடிவில் உள்ளது. பாம்பாட்டி சித்தருக்கு முருகன் பாம்பு வடிவில் காட்சியளித்ததார் என்பது மரபு வரலாறு. பாம்பாட்டி சித்தர் சன்னிதி முன்புறமுள்ள தியான மண்டபத்தில் இங்கு வருகை தருவோர் அமர்ந்து அமைதியாக தியானம் செய்து வழிபடுகின்றனர். தண்டாயுதபாணி கோயில் தலவிருட்சம் இக்கோயிலுக்கு முன்னால் உள்ளது. இக்கோயிலுக்கு இறங்கி வரும் பாதையில் சப்த கன்னியருக்கு ஒரு சிறு சன்னிதி அமைந்துள்ளது.
