On the same day, President Trump’s federal crime crackdown in D.C. officially ended, the House Oversight Committee voted to advance all 14 Republican-backed bills aimed at rolling back the city’s autonomy and increasing Congress’s oversight.

After an intense 11-hour hearing, the committee passed the measures, which include reinstating cash bail for certain crimes, undoing sentencing reforms that gave second chances to some who offended as teens, and even proposals that would allow the president — rather than voters — to appoint the city’s attorney general.
