Grant Funding Agencies – Are They Really Changing?

Libraries have long relied on external funding to realize all manner of projects, from large-scale digitization initiatives to innovative methods for presenting digital collections. Recently, as funding agencies like the Mellon Foundation, the NSF and the IMLS have altered the grants they award, libraries have developed new approaches to harness and allocate these resources in creative ways. Some institutions have established fellowships for early career librarians and scholars to gain experience in areas like scholarly communication or research data management and support. Others have partnered with scholarly societies to develop tools and platforms through which researchers can collaborate and widely share their scholarship, as Columbia has done with the MLA. This panel addresses the changing funding landscape and emerging shifts in library priorities.
