Your roof needs to be properly vented for two key reasons:

1. Keep your attic (and home’s interior) cooler during summer. This can help keep A/C run time down and make it more comfortable in your house.

2. Keep warm air flowing out of your attic in Winter. It may seem backwards but warm air in your attic in winter can cause ice dams when we get snowfall. Ice dams will shorten your roof’s lifespan and could cause a leak.

Solar power vents are a great way to improve your attic ventilation! They force air out when the sun hits the solar panel, but most models (like this GAF Green Machine) don’t require connection to a power source.
