From ‘the78prof’ playlist “And Then They Added Words.” This was Judy’s very first commercial record release. As the story goes, she was assigned to sit in with the Bob Crosby band for a couple of tracks, but band manager Gil Rodin was not particularly impressed and asked that the Crosby name not be included on the label. Note that she’s shown as “13 years old,” though she had turned 14 two days prior to the recording session.

Named after the famous Savoy Ballroom in New York City, the jazz standard was composed by Edgar Sampson during his time with the Chick Webb band.
