Dexter: First "And in the Beginning..." is Sin's premiere. While it covers several of the series' anticipated narrative beats, it hasn't yet found a natural balance between its familiar characters and fresh faces. Angela Bishop's police cruiser transports a wounded Dexter to the hospital in a startling opening scene that continues where New Blood left off. Dexter's life flashes before his eyes as he is revived in the ER, establishing the 2025 follow-up series Dexter: Resurrection. The original's iconic theme song and Michael C. Hall's strangely calming voiceover narration create an emulative yet reaffirming atmosphere.

After the controversial New Blood and the disappointing original series finale, a Dexter prequel series has always been risky, and its first episode hasn't yet paid off.
