Описание к видео Mt Tarawera walking down alive volcano on Wilding Pines clearing day Saturday 8 February 2025 🇳🇿

Wilding Pines clearing
A maximum of 16 people (minimum age 14) is permitted. There are three trips scheduled this season. This is not an event. There is no charge for the trip. This is an opportunity to volunteer to help clear Wilding Pines on the Maunga. This is a rare and privileged opportunity to visit part of Mt Tarawera that is sacred to Māori and not accessible to the public. Please respect this.

The terrain, elevation, and changeable conditions require a certain level of fitness and physical ability. There are steep climbs and descent and uneven terrain, plus you will be working for a number of hours (about 3-4 based on past years) pulling/cutting small pine trees. It is likely we will work on the Northern slopes directly in front of Lake Tarawera, which means that it is likely (weather and time permitting) that there will be an opportunity to hike to the summit and then enter the crater down a thrilling scree slope and walking out of the crater to the bus. There are a lot of photos/posts/reports of previous trips documented by past participants on the WTRW page if you would like to get an impression of what to expect.

The actual area of work and trip will be determined by the volunteer leaders of the day.   The meeting point is the Rerewhakaaitu Recreational reserve (Ash Pit Road Campsite - use the link above) at 0745. You will be uplifted by 4WD bus (leaves at 0800) and taken up the mountain to the work site.

The volunteer leaders of the group will guide you to the work location and the hike back. However, safety is YOUR responsibility - this is an alpine environment, and weather can change quickly with rapid changes in temperature, climate, and visibility. It is highly recommended that you have suitable footwear and clothing to protect you from the elements, as well as safety equipment (eg., whistle, survival blanket, PLB, headlamp) and enough water and food for the trip.

Not to scare people off but at the same time to be very clear: YOU are responsible for your own safety and the assessment of your own physical ability to undertake the trip. "
