Just to clear something up. The last full day of 405-line TV was 2nd January 1985 in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, then they went off at points during the 3rd January. Things were delayed by a day in Scotland owing to an extra public holiday up there, so 4th January 1985 is officially when 405 lines ended in the UK (although its rumoured that as the Llandrindod Wells site had its own BBC converter and was so remote, it took until 6th January for that to go off.
