Guitar Cab Dynamic Mics (Shure SM57, Sennheiser e845s, Sontronics Solo)

Описание к видео Guitar Cab Dynamic Mics (Shure SM57, Sennheiser e845s, Sontronics Solo)

Comparing the Shure SM57, Sennheiser e845s and Sontronics Solo for guitar cab use, using my Quilter 101 Mini, my 1930s cab with
a 10" Celestion Alnico Gold speaker, using loops for precision.

The mics were recorded at the same preamp setting on my
Focusrite 18i8 2nd Gen and I tried to match the outputs in the DAW.
What you see are pictures I took before starting recording just to show what mic is in use each time, on the actual recordings the mic placement and amp settings were as exact as it was humanly possible.

I used the TC Electronic Ditto Looper for 3 different loops, each one at a different guitar register to better showcase each microphone's response.

I used my Warmoth Strat with Nick Silver handwound Greek pickups
and cables I made from Sommer Cable and Neutrik connectors.

Personally I would avoid using the 57 on its own because of its infamous 2-4kHz peaks, the e845s would be great for Danelectro-style guitars but lacks 1-2kHz response, and the Solo would be by no1 choice instead of a ribbon mic, especially when recording multiple instruments at the same time; huge output, insane rejection and very smooth freq. response, which at the same time means lack of aggression.
