On May 20th, 2015, 500 Questions debuted for a full week of test-run shows. Hosted by Richard Quest of CNN International, 500 Questions billed itself as the "World's Toughest Quiz" and all contestants are certified geniuses. Each game has a reigning champion and a challenger. The champion faces a board of 10 categories, each with five questions for a total of 50. In any given question, if the champion answers it correctly, they earn $1,000 if the first answer they give is correct. But if the champion does not answer correctly within 10 seconds, they will receive a wrong and it will take a correct answer to get rid of the wrong. If the champion gets two wrongs in a row, the challenger selects the next category and if the champion gets a wrong in that, the champion is defeated and the challenger takes their place to start a fresh journey to 500 questions. Also among the questions are Battle and Triple Threat questions, and Top Ten Challenges. In a Battle, the champion and challenger face-off (with the champion deciding if they'll answer first or second) in a list-type question, and they will have five seconds to each answer. Each Battle won is $1,000 in the bank. In Triple Threat questions, they have three answers worth $3,000, but all three must be given for credit. In Top Ten Challenge questions, the champion decides if they'll play or pass to the challenger in a list question that has 10 answers, and they have 15 seconds to give five of them for $1,000. And halfway through the set is a milestone question, where if the champion gets it right on the first answer, they win a guaranteed $5,000. If the champion survives through the set of 50 questions, they win the money banked and face a new challenger, though any wrongs can be carried over to the next game.
To start the run off, the incumbent champion is Dan McCarthy, a lawyer. The incumbent challenger is Ogi Ogas, a neuroscientist who had previously been on Millionaire and Grand Slam. Let the run to 500 questions begin!
