Bae Yong Kyun's The People in White 검으나 땅에 희나 백성 w/ English Subtitles

After many years in an asylum, a man returns to find that the village of his birth is gone and a massive, mysteriously empty factory has sprung up in its place.

I arranged translations to be done by a native Korean, I then rewrote them in a more structural and natural English translation and timed the subtitles, which took a long while. Certain expressions or ideas may be embellished or slightly lost in translation. If any well-versed Korean speakers wish to correct or amend dialogues, feel free to reach out, as this is definitely a film rich with expressive ideas.

This project probably took 30+ hours to translate / time subs for, so hopefully the effort was worthwhile. I believe The People in White had a limited cinema run in the mid 90s, and never got commercially released beyond that, only being available as a video on demand in person in the Korean Film Archives. But somewhere along the line a digital copy ended up sneaking out, and I took the initiative to subtitle it for an English speaking audience, as I think it's akin to a film by Tarkovsky or Bergman being trapped in obscurity. Hopefully this reaches an appreciative audience, and one day distributors will give it the attention it properly deserves.
