It’s the first day of Garcia inside boot camp. He’s a military nerd of sorts. Before joining, he studied and memorized everything he could. He thought he was going to be the best recruit, the one who never messed up. Then something unexpected happened. After a long day, Garcia and his platoon finally went to chow for the very first time. Garcia sat eating when he spotted an officer he admired. Without thinking, he stood up and snapped a sharp salute. In his head, he expected recognition, maybe even respect. But that’s not what happened. The drill instructor stormed up to him, slammed the table, and roared, “WHY ARE YOU SALUTING?!” In seconds, the entire platoon was dragged outside and punished until exhaustion. But why did this happen? You see, in bootcamp, there are places a recruit should never salute.
