David Benavidez, a former two-time world champion, maintained his flawless record in the ring with an 11th-round technical knockout triumph over veteran Ronald Ellis in their WBC Super Middleweight Title Eliminator main event, which aired live on SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING from Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn., as part of a Premier Boxing Champions event.

Hailing from Phoenix, Benavidez (24-0, 21 KOs) showcased remarkable hand speed, precision, and power, dominating Ellis (18-2-2, 12 KOs) of Lynn, Mass., throughout the 11 rounds until referee Johnny Callas halted the bout at 2:03 of the penultimate round. The 24-year-old phenom held a commanding lead on all three scorecards (99-91, 98-92 x2) at the time of the stoppage.

Reflecting on his performance, Benavidez, who extended his unblemished record to 24-0, remarked, “I assess my performance fairly positively, although I believe I could have performed even better. Ronald Ellis proved to be a resilient opponent. I hope the fans enjoyed the spectacle. I unleashed numerous combinations and maintained a high volume of punches. There were instances where I anticipated Ellis might concede, but he persisted. Credit to him for his toughness. While the stoppage came slightly later than anticipated, a stoppage victory is still significant. My aim is to provide an entertaining experience for the fans.”

Benavidez, who rose to prominence as the youngest super middleweight world champion in boxing history, delivered a virtuoso performance, evident in his punch statistics. He landed 289 of 532 power punches thrown, boasting an impressive connection rate of 54%. Notably, Benavidez landed 50 punches in the 11th round, ultimately leading to the stoppage. Both fighters collectively threw 1,403 punches. Following his commanding triumph on SHOWTIME, Benavidez moves one step closer to reclaiming a super middleweight world title.
