During Ghana Independence Day celebrations marking 69 years of nationhood, John Dramani Mahama delivered a message of hope, accountability, and national renewal, highlighting the resilience of Ghana’s democracy and its future role in shaping Africa’s progress.

The President noted that Ghana’s democratic journey has endured because political actors have learned to compete without destroying the system, describing the country as a model of stability in the region. He also expressed optimism that confidence in the Ghanaian economy is gradually returning, while emphasizing the need for integrity in public life.

Using a powerful analogy, Mahama said corruption is like a classroom robbed of textbooks, stressing that it deprives citizens of opportunities and national development. He urged Ghanaians to cultivate a natural culture of integrity in which merit and competence—not connections—determine opportunity.

The President also revealed that the government is in the final stages of establishing a Women’s Development Bank to expand financial opportunities for women and support entrepreneurship across the country.

Positioning Ghana within the broader African vision, Mahama declared that the nation’s destiny is inseparable from that of Africa, adding that Ghana will lead a global call for dignity, restoration, and inclusive development.
