Описание к видео Brown bread vs Skittles? Which is worse on MY sugar levels

We only have about 1 teaspoon of sugar in our blood at any one time.

When we eat certain foods, this goes up and it's the job of our body to either use it for energy or store it for later use (glycogen and fat).

Normally our body is efficient at this process.
If this process becomes less efficient (eg secondary to weight, or diet, or age or ethnicity) the blood sugar tends to hang around for longer after we eat.

This is the first step towards diabetes and it represents our bodies becoming less sensitive to the hormones that normally dispose/store/regulate our sugar levels.

Sugar that hangs around for too long in the blood is an independent risk factor for diabetes, heart disease, liver disease, cancer, obesity and premature death - not good.

Certain foods cause our sugar to rise more than others and hang around more than others. A landmark study in 2015 showed that our glucose levels are very different for each individual person even if we eat the same meals and foods.

This is profound because it means we can
Know our OWN bodies response (in terms of glucose) to various foods
We can measure this

This is where a continuous glucose monitor comes in. These are devices that constantly measure your glucose and tell you your level via an app.
It literally tells you your glucose level in response to food; you can see, in real time what the foods you eat do to your glucose.

As a general rule, stable, controlled, "flat" glucose lines are good so anything that wildly deranges your glucose for long periods of time is probably not the best thing to be having regularly. Ergo, this is a tool that can help personalise your dietary/metabolic/lifestyle strategy.

It's worthy considering as an add on to your lifestyle plan, especially if you like data and a little self experimentation.

Good luck!
