This is how it works, step by step:

1. The phones are running a simple web app - their motion data is received, rounded, quantized, and converted to a string representing a note from a predefined scale (in this case - Makam Hijaz).

2. The string is transferred to a database server.

3. On the other side (physically offstage), a laptop running another web app is pulling data from the same database, in 50ms intervals.

4. The laptop receives a string representing the last note played. It converts this string into an actual MIDI note using the webmidi API.

5. This MIDI note is then transferred through a USB to MIDI cable to the electric piano, which is connected to the theater's PA system.

6. Ta - Daaaaa!
