The speaker is Dr Elizabeth A. Bates, Principal Lecturer in Psychology and Psychological Therapies at the University of Cumbria. Understanding the Experiences of Male Victims of Domestic Violence: Implications for Theory and Practice

The aim of this talk is to discuss the current research that exists on men’s experience of domestic violence and abuse. This will involve considering their experiences of physical violence and injury, emotional and psychological abuse, the ways in which this abuse can continue and change post separation, and the ways men cope with and recover from these experiences. This talk will also include a discussion of the implications for research and practice including the challenges these experience present to current policy and narratives around the gendered models of domestic violence.
