Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has said that 55,000 Ukrainian soldiers have been killed in the war with Russia, now in its fourth year. Speaking in an interview with France 2, Zelensky added that a large number of people are officially missing. Both Kyiv and Moscow have regularly released estimates of enemy losses while avoiding detailed disclosures of their own. Separately, the BBC has confirmed the names of nearly 160,000 people killed while fighting on Russia’s side. US President Donald Trump has been leading efforts to end the war that began with Russia’s full-scale invasion on 22 February 2022.
