Fox & Lillie Rural’s General Manager, Daniel Charters and Fox & Lillie Wool Trader Andrew Worthington recently travelled to Vietnam to look into opportunities for Australian wool in Vietnam.

Alongside a group of Australian Wool Industry Businesses, Daniel visited the Australian Embassy in Vietnam to discuss the potential for stronger trade links and ways to support the growing demand for wool in the country. During the trip, he visited several wool-processing businesses, including LPTEX Vietnam and the opening of the new NDT Sudwolle Group dye house. Daniel says it was really refreshing to see the massive investment in the wool later stage processing of wool into garments, they were generally quite concerned with the large tariffs that America had placed on them and were hoping this would resolve itself.

Vietnam is the second largest textile manufacturer in the world with 44 billion USD exported last year for all fibres. They now have capacity for 20 million kg of wool spinning through to garment, which is around 160,000 bales, and are looking for investment in early-stage processing as currently all wool tops come out of China. Vietnam are positioned very well moving forward with a lower cost structure, the average factory worker who works 48 hours per week earns 400 USD per month.
