John G. Lake (1870–1935)
John G. Lake, born March 18, 1870, in St. Mary’s, Ontario, Canada, was a missionary and healing evangelist whose ministry transformed countless lives. Raised in Michigan, Lake faced personal tragedy with family illnesses, which fueled his passion for divine healing. After experiencing God’s healing power, he founded the Divine Healing Institute in Spokane, Washington, where over 100,000 healings were documented between 1915 and 1920, earning Spokane the title “healthiest city in America.” Lake’s ministry in South Africa from 1908 to 1913 saw thousands saved and healed, with miracles like blind eyes restored and limbs regenerated.
He taught that Jesus is a present-day healer, emphasizing the believer’s authority over sickness and demons through the Holy Spirit. Lake’s “Healing Rooms” model, where trained teams prayed for the sick, became a cornerstone of Pentecostal practice. His bold faith and teachings on spiritual dominion influenced the global spread of Pentecostalism, particularly through his establishment of the Apostolic Faith Mission in South Africa. Today, Spirit-filled churches revive Lake’s Healing Rooms worldwide, and his writings, like Adventures in God, inspire believers to walk in supernatural power. Lake’s life proves that God’s healing anointing flows through those fully surrendered to Him.
