Today I’m attempting something totally new (and honestly intimidating)… a pen and watercolor portrait inspired by a Sketching Scotty tutorial!

I’ve never been a “drawing guy,” so jumping straight into portrait sketching — with no pencil underdrawing — was definitely outside my comfort zone. But I grabbed my pen, trusted the process, and hoped it would at least look like a human being… and surprisingly, it does!

After the ink work, I follow along with Scotty’s color washes, guessing my way through my palette and trying to match tones as best I can. It gets advanced pretty fast, but I do my best to hang in there, finish the shadows, and add a few gouache highlights at the end.

Oreo is “supervising” from the corner (aka sleeping), and I’m just here learning portrait basics one line at a time.
