We are pleased to be join by Roshan Muhammad Salih, journalist and editor of 5Pillars. 5Pillars has been at the forefront in covering issues around the change in school education around LGBTQ topics and covering the public policies being put in place.

We discuss how Muslim journalism looks like, his work on covering issues around sexuality and gender. The backlash and history of discussing issues from an Islamic perspective and what sets 5Pillars apart from other platforms.

Roshan Muhammed Salih has been a journalist for 21 years. He started his career in local newspapers in the UK before moving into TV journalism with London Weekend Television. He then went to work at Al Jazeera’s new English website in Qatar. Upon his return to the UK a few years later he became head of news at Islam Channel between 2005-2007. He then moved onto Press TV where he was head of news in London for five years. He is now a documentary maker and the editor of the British Muslim news website 5Pillars. During his career Roshan has reported from over 25 countries. Highlights include the Iraq war and occupation, the 2006 Pakistan earthquake, the Lebanon/Israel war of the same year, the Iran nuclear crisis, the Egyptian revolution, the Libyan revolution, the World Cup, the Olympics and much, much more.

On a personal level, Roshan is 46 years old and of mixed Sri Lankan/Welsh heritage. He likes travel, reading and sport, and speaks fluent French and good Arabic.
