This short video captures an expedition to the historic Carysfort Reef Lighthouse in the Florida Keys, led by Florida Keys Reef Lights Foundation, in December 2021. Carysfort Reef Lighthouse was completed in 1852, with construction overseen by George Gordon Meade, later a famed Union general. Its open, iron pile design was highly innovative for its time, a milestone in Florida Keys history and the history of Florida lighthouses. The structure has survived over 160 years at sea, including the onslaught of hurricanes. The video features the journey from Amoray Dive Center on Key Largo to this Florida Keys lighthouse and includes aerial footage.
