Before 2013 many people loved Dan to bits but as you know 2011-2013 were basically a horrible couple of years. Loads of secrets came out and people who were somehow connected to Dan and Phil or somehow knew them started to expose them. There were a handful of blogs talking about their experiences with Dan and people being really negative.

It wasn't only because he was a bit harsh on the 'phan'... he was genuinely stressed. Many phandom members left around 2013 cause it was A MESS!!! Loads of his fans turned against him... but he gained other fans at the same time... Meaning that yes he did lose a certain amount of dedicated o.g Danosaurs, but he gained others as well so it wasn't that big of a loss.

Don't ever say that someone is weird for hating or simply disliking dan, it is not new. I can't give you too many details despite being one of the people who were there at the time.... i'm sorry

On the MattG thing and the "friends drift apart thing:

Phil used to admire Matt and would often fanboy whenever they interacted. They spoke online and met at a convention in 2012. In 2013 Matt posted a picture of him and Dan on Instagram. If you listened to his gaming stream you’d have heard he said that Dan is a bit mean and that he(matt) can’t even interact with Phil properly because Dan acts like a restraint on Phil’s friends and fans ability to interact. Such a massive deterrent. However this is not the first time this happened. Back in the day charlieskies used to drop hints of it already. He mentioned stuff about Dan being in the way and Dan being a dick etc etc.

It is also quite significant how many of Dan and Phil’s older friends have been ditched. They were Phil’s friends and then Dan came and suddenly they started to fade away. Some of them didn’t get as popular as Chris and PJ but that doesn’t mean they have to neglect them like that!!! insert upset Dan gif here Dan and Phil replaced them with more popular YouTubers. I don’t like using the word replaced but it might as well be the case.

Edit: Some people said I should NOT use "replaced" but ^^^ i basically said I didn't want to but kind of just used it.

Someone also mentioned that they didn't like the way I spoke about the old friends. Hear me out! I'm not saying Dan forced Phil to do anything, however it was widely "known" for many years that Dan didn't want to lose Phil and would sometimes be "in the way" when others tried to interact with him. The people they used to hang out with back in the day basically kind of got ignored (I remember Dan and Phil replying to their tweets a lot but it suddenly just stopped...) We don't know what happened in person and we don't have to. The reason I said "replaced with more popular YouTubers" was because I was trying to say that the friends got replaced, not that they replaced them. If they replaced them they would've dumped them and basically put someone else in their place... But what actually happened is that d/p just kind of drifted apart from the friends but instead of trying to talk to them again they got more opportunities to talk with others... Meaning the older friends were kind of out of the picture.
