There is one day in the year when Hasidic Jews PARTY

Описание к видео There is one day in the year when Hasidic Jews PARTY

What happens when Hasidic Jews take one day of the year to drink and party? A community in which abstinence from partying culture is tantamount takes a day to deliberately change things up. This is my first ever vlog of this day. It's peak Purim, at the end of the Jewish holiday, when many men are drunk and the entire neighborhood sheds its mask, so to speak. What's underneath?

I used to dislike this part of Purim because I didn't like the role I was slated to play, in the women's section. I enjoy this role as a documentarian immensely, but it doesn't escape me that while the day is joyous, it isn't for everyone. This vlog represents my vantage point, as someone who has been gingerly exploring videography in this community. However, there is much left unsaid about the perspectives around gender and alcohol on this festive day. Perhaps for another time.

The song in this video is a popular Purim song ‘Nye Zhuritze Chloptzi’ which has Russian and Yiddish lyrics.
Here’s a traditional version of the song:
   • Nye Zhuritze Chloptzi
Here’s the Chaim Shloime Mayos cover I used in this video:
   • וודקה I חיים שלמה מאיעס I פורים תשע"ז...
