Here are some things that I wish I knew before attending. Colby is covered in a thick blanket of snow for the majority of the year, and it is difficult to get used to 4:00 pm sunsets. If you don’t know how to ski, you better be ready to learn. Harsh weather does not stop students from enjoying the outdoors. Colby is only an hour and a half from Sugarloaf, the biggest ski area on the east coast. Sugarloaf offers a college pass at a discounted rate for students. Be sure to sign up early to take advantage of the cheapest pass. Johnson Pond on campus opens for skating and hockey when frozen. The best intermural sport is broomball, a quasi-hockey game that is very easy to learn and signing up is a must. Colby is located on an idyllic and beautiful campus, but it’s very isolated. It is nearly impossible to live off-campus without a car.
