Clickers vs Verbal Markers: We Choose Both!

This is a hot topic in dog training: to use a clicker or use a verbal marker? Well, we like to use both as both have their pros and both have their cons. But the truth it, it is totally up to you! It's your dog and what comes easier or more natural, as long as you are consistent with your message is what matters. Make sure you have a terminal marker (dog is released from behavior to access a reward), a duration marker (dog stays in position and you go to them with reward) and a non-rewarding release cue to promote a calm state of mind when being released as you don't always want your dog pumped up! You are welcome to expand your marker system to include a different marker for a toy reward vs food and an alive toy vs a "dead" one. Leerburg has also shown a different marker for accessing a reward from the right vs left...so the sky is the limit if you want to get super crazy.
