A bottom-up entity structure without a centralized management structure is known as a decentralized autonomous organization or DAO. Members of a DAO can vote on projects for the entity and hold DAO tokens. The DAO uses smart contracts, and the code controlling its functioning is made available to the public.

A DAO is designed to enhance the conventional management structure used by many businesses. A DAO aims to provide each member a voice, a vote, and the chance to suggest projects rather than relying on a single person or small group of people to decide the path of the business. A DAO aims to have strong governance that is controlled by blockchain code.
