3 Uses for Cowpeas + My Favorite Types to Plant

Cowpeas are incredibly hard to kill, can be planted in poor soil, grow in our summer heat without a problem, don't need any watering once established, will cover the soil so you don't have to weed, & produce edible beans that can be used fresh or allowed to dry for storage. This is an absolute no-brainer of a Florida garden crop for anyone who is homesteading or looking to increase their self-sufficiency. Because of its ability to grow without rich soil, it can also be used as an annual cover crop in permaculture designs or Florida food forests (although bean production will be lower if not enough sun).
