SCAD | Spontaneous Coronary Artery Dissection causing a heart attack.

Описание к видео SCAD | Spontaneous Coronary Artery Dissection causing a heart attack.

A not infrequent condition resulting in a heart attack arises from a small tear within the lining of the artery of the heart. This results in clot build up and needs urgent management. Professor Barlis discusses what Spontaneous Coronary Artery Dissection, SCAD, is and how it can be managed. The condition is seen in around 5% of all cases of a heart attack and is more frequently seen in females, usually aged less than 50 years of age. In this age group, SCAD can account for as many as 35% of all presentations of a heart attack. Reassuringly, in many cases, the condition recovers fully.
