A while back I was working on a salon and I just wasn’t that busy. But in that salon back room the other under booked stylists and I always had reasons (excuses); it was summer, are shifts were slow, it was a recession, brides were too difficult, etc.

Deep down when I really looked at myself I had to admit I had turned down quite a few clients. Some had natural (coily hair) which wasn’t the norm at that time, some had short hair, some wanted to bring in a wedding party and I couldn’t complete multiple updos in the allotted time.

I knew I had to make a change. I could not keep watching money walk out of the door… so I devoted time to taking classes. I focussed on expanding my craft. I eventually became so booked that I was able to increase my prices and create a waiting list at one of the most diverse salons in the city.

Eventually I realize that I wanted even more. I wanted to work with high and brides, celebrities, and get booked outside of the salon for productions.
I wanted to be booked for a day rates instead of individual services.
Not that I have mastered working with all hair textures.
