The French champion against all Spanish cyclists. Bernard Hinault, who wasn´t having his best Vuelta a España and whom the Spaniards constantly attacked, took revenge in the Avila stage with a devastating attack on the top of Serranillos, an emblematic mountain of Spanish cycling.

In the midst of great expectation, the Vuelta a España started with the presence of French champion Bernard Hinault, who would have to fight against Spanish cyclists such as Marino Lejarreta, Pedro Delgado or Angel Martín who would constantly attack him.
