The initial and urgent part of the conversation centres on the news that Israel and Hamas have agreed to the first phase of the Trump Peace Plan, which would see 48 Israeli hostages, dead and alive, released within 72 hours in exchange for Palestinian prisoners.

Julia Hartley-Brewer cautiously welcomes the news, noting it would be a huge relief for the hostage families, but remains sceptical about the longevity of the peace, calling the plan “only phase one.” Benedict Spence states that if the deal holds, it is an “Israeli victory,” arguing that the only reason Hamas comes to the table is Israel's military dominance, a sentiment he reinforces by saying that “bombing your enemies into submission actually does work.”
