I was cleaning up trash on our new property and had to call the police—not because of anything exciting, but because our local dump requires documentation that boats aren’t stolen before they’ll accept them.

We had two old boats and trailers sitting in the woods. The sheriff ran the HIN or the registration number, and once they came back clear, we loaded everything up using our new-to-us CAT 259D3 with a root grapple from Paramount Metal Fab.

Boats aren’t roots, but the grapple handled them like a champ. We also pulled out some buried tires—so old, trees had grown through them.

This load was 1,600 lbs, bringing our total trash and scrap haul so far to 23,346 lbs.
