Only 70km at its widestpoint, the West Coast is sandwiched between the sea and mountains, including New Zealand’s two highest, Aoraki/Mt Cook and Mt Tasman. In between there are beach and forest walks to suit all ages and abilities, eco tourism experiences, caving, rafting, canoeing and kayaking, surfing, jet boating, jet skiing, glacier walks, scenic flights, mountain biking, horse treks, river and sea fishing, gold panning and historic ghost towns.
With five National Parks, two wilderness areas, two kiwi sanctuaries and a southern landscape so awe inspiring UNESCO, named it a world heritage area, the West Coast is truly nature at its most raw and spectacular.
