"We want to create an alternative for Europeans and for the big market. It's dominated by big tech and we think that there is a chance of providing something that actually you can control."

6. SOUNDBITE (English) Sami Pienimaki, CEO and co-founder, Jolla Group:
"We started actually already in 2012, we introduced here in Mobile World Congress 2013 our original Jölle phone, but the world wasn't ready, it was quite different, nobody cared actually about data privacy at that time, now it's actually in people's mind. Things have changed a lot in the past year, and people do care about data privacy nowadays, and sovereignty."

"Of course, we use the best components out there available. We use Taiwanese MediaTek SOC processor, we use Korean memories from SK hynix, we use Japanese Sony camera modules, we used the best components and a lot of that happens to come from Asia. But if you think about the smartphone itself, wouldn't you think that the software is actually more than 50% of the value of the product, which is something we create. We create both a beautiful looking device, nice design, we do the actual hardware together with our partners, of course, but the real value comes from the software, which we compile from the source code, from the processor level to the UI ourselves. So, we actually assemble the source codes to it. Which we actually do in Finland. We do the final assembly in Finland."

14. SOUNDBITE (English) Sami Pienimaki, CEO and co-founder, Jolla Group:
"People care about data privacy nowadays. People care what happens to their data. And we provide that opportunity. We provided it from day one as we established Jolla, we wrote down the privacy policy of the company, which is quite unlike to others. It actually respects your privacy. Not many do that, honestly. But then not too many people cared. We got a sizable community. Actually, 30,000 people daily drive their Sailfish phones every day, already, and they've been carrying with us this for over the past 10, 14 years. But the world is very different. Now it's changed, people actually really care where the data lies on, what is being used with the data and how it's been exploited. And this is really something. Another change, of course, is the European sovereignty. That has happened very concretely here in the European soil for a lot of Europeans now in the past year."
