MEET MONGCHON - NOKLAK’S LONE COBBLER

At a time when the youths are frustrated in search of a secure government or a private job, there are some people who are not following the same path. Instead they make their own path and become an example for others to be self reliant and independent. Let us introduce you to Mongchon, the only cobbler in Noklak town. We are here today to tell his story to the viewers of Nagaland TV.
At a time when many people from the society are chasing for easy money aiming for a luxurious lifestyle, a profession like cobbling remains a neglected one. There is this mindset in our society that such professions are very downgraded, mostly carried out by outsiders. As a result no one is inclined to such work. However there is a person called Mongchon, who has proven the notion wrong. As he is someone who understands the dignity of labour very well. Mongchon, a cobbler by profession, experienced the harsh reality of life very early when he lost his father when he was studying in class 10. After losing his father, Mongchon was raised by his uncle. But the hardship of life didn't leave him. There came a time when he had to look after his family and find out earning possibilities. As there was no alternative, Mongchon decided to start repairing shoes and turned a cobbler to earn bread and butter for living. Though initially he started with repairing his own shoes gradually he took up this as a regular source of income when others began to approach him for repairing their footwear. Mongchon does not hold any special or formal training however his desire and self dependency pushed him to carry the occupation. It all began in the year 2018 and since then Mongchon has become a household name in the locality
