Our Land Senior Producer Laura Paskus speaks with Samantha Barncastle, an attorney from the Elephant Butte Irrigation District, about a proposed settlement in a major water lawsuit.

For almost ten years, the U.S. Supreme Court has been hearing a disagreement between New Mexico and Texas over the waters of the Rio Grande. It’s a lawsuit that has left some southern New Mexicans – including those in the Elephant Butte Irrigation District (EBID) – feeling uncertain. Barncastle talks about the case and the unique position farmers continue to find themselves in today. She also talks about her hopes for the future, in terms of finding “new” water for southern New Mexicans.
