In a recent interview with Shiva Gopal Mishra, General Secretary of the All India Railwaymen's Federation (AIRF), he emphasized the Rail Minister's sincere efforts to improve conditions for locomotive pilots across the country. Mishra commented that the ongoing political campaign by Rahul Gandhi regarding locopilots is purely driven by politics and lacks substantive merit.

Addressing the issue, Rail Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw asserted that significant strides have been made since 2014 to enhance working conditions, highlighting that over 7,000 locomotives are now equipped with air-conditioning systems. He underscored ongoing efforts to further improve facilities for locopilots.

Speaking directly to NewsStation Editor Siddharatha, Mishra expressed his views, stating, "The Rail Minister's claims do contain elements of truth. The frontline staff, including locopilots, face considerable challenges during their duties. The recent heatwave has exacerbated the situation."

Mishra detailed historical challenges, noting improvements in locomotives procured post-2014. He recounted instances where older locomotives lacked air-conditioning, leading to discomfort and safety concerns for drivers. He highlighted recent technological advancements and ongoing efforts to retrofit existing engines with improved cooling systems.

Regarding Rahul Gandhi's involvement, Mishra criticized the politicization of the issue, emphasizing that such efforts should focus on practical improvements rather than symbolic gestures. He stressed the importance of addressing genuine concerns of railway workers directly through substantive policy and infrastructure upgrades.

In conclusion, Mishra acknowledged the complexities involved in railway operations but called for sustained efforts from the government to address systemic issues comprehensively. He emphasized the need for ongoing dialogue and collaboration between stakeholders to ensure the welfare and safety of railway personnel remains a top priority.
