CHOW 2023: "Virtual Breakout: If You’ve Got It, Flaunt It: Expanding the Use of Existing Tools to Combat IUU Fishing Globally"

The Biden Administration issued a National Security Memorandum on Combating IUU Fishing and Associated Labor Abuses one year ago in June 2022. This panel, moderated by the Stimson Center, will review accomplishments to date and areas of priority action moving forward. The panel will consider the Maritime Security and Fisheries Enforcement Act of 2019 and other ways that the United States and its partners can support and expand the use of existing mechanisms to combat IUU fishing globally. The panel will explore how the IUU Fishing Action Alliance – which is made up of governments, NGOs and industry stakeholders – is leading the global movement to take clear, direct, coordinated action to fight IUU fishing, including through the Port States Measures Agreement, the Global Record, the new Voluntary Guidelines on Transshipment, among others.
