I recently faced a major water damage issue with my ₹30,000 DJI Osmo Action 4, and here’s what you need to know before you risk your camera.

Most creators assume their action cameras are fully waterproof, but that’s only true if every compartment — battery door, USB-C port cover, and lens cap — are completely sealed. In my case, one latch wasn’t fully locked, and during a rain ride, water seeped into the internal circuit. The camera shut down instantly, and the display and lens fogged up permanently.

The result? A repair cost of ₹10,000, and to make things worse, DJI doesn’t provide any warranty coverage for water damage — not even for accidental exposure. So even if your camera says “waterproof up to 18 meters,” remember — it’s only safe under controlled conditions, not real-world rain or riding situations.

If you use your camera for bike vlogs, travel videos, or monsoon shoots, always do these three things:
Double-check all locks and seals.

Avoid full submersion unless you’re using a proper waterproof housing case.
