Kenny Walker brought his rare-find 1930 Caterpillar Thirty to the Historical Construction Equipment Association’s annual show in September to demonstrate how its belt pulley can power a vintage rock-crushing operation.
Walker also hitched the 95-year-old Thirty – which has all-original parts – to a fan at the show, which can be seen later in the video. The Thirty spent most of its life on one farm in California before Walker purchased it in March.
“Everything on that tractor is original,” Walker says. “… It is the most original Thirty I've ever seen. And I felt pretty lucky to be able to acquire it.”
In the video above, the Thirty’s 4-cylinder gasoline engine, which produces 36 belt horsepower, runs a 1930s era Allis-Chalmers 10-inch Superior McCully Crusher. The crusher feeds a 1950s era Barber-Greene 543 bucket loader, which empties into the bed of a 1960 Euclid 91FD R18 end dump truck. Feeding the rocks to the crusher is a 1926 K-2 Big Bertha, the oldest-known running Link-Belt crawler crane in existence and the first antique machine the HCEA restored, according to the association.
